ON Power Awarded SA’s Environmental Prize 2015
Icelandic energy company ON Power has been awarded SA Business Iceland’s Environmental Awards 2015 for the Project of the Year
Icelandic energy company ON Power has been awarded SA Business Iceland’s Environmental Awards 2015 for the Project of the Year. ON Power has taken a leading role in greener transportation in Iceland by introducing fast charging stations for electric cars in Iceland’s capital area.
The prize was handed to ON Power’s CEO, Mr. Pall Erland (left), by the president of Iceland, Mr. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson (right), at Business Iceland’s Environmental Day. The day included seminars on various environmental issues concerning businesses in Iceland with special attention to the use of Iceland’s vast natural resources and the country’s carbon footprint.
SA Business Iceland is Iceland’s largest association of employers, accounting for about 70% of all salaried employees on the Icelandic labor market.

ON Power is a leader in geothermal utilization in Iceland and virtually all electricity in Iceland is generated from renewable sources. Therefore, the country is viewed as particularly suitable for revolutionizing transportation through increased use of electric vehicles. They need charging stations, both for regular use and fast-charging.
Ten such stations are already in operation and more are on the way. These installations have proven to be a psychological stepping-stone for drivers that have tended to feel unsure whether their environmentally friendly vehicles will reach their destination.
