United Water’s (UW) are working with a new system called Sensus FlexNet to develop effective methods which will tackle the three main common causes of non-revenue water.

Sensus is managing a smart water communication network for United Water (UW). One of the nation’s major utilities and water waste provider, UW is a contributory of Suez Environment, the world leader exclusively dedicated to the sustainable management of resources.

According to Sensus, the Sensus FlexNet system, 325,000 smart end points and Software as a Service (SaaS) will assist the utility to provide sustainable water management for its customers in New Jersey and New York. “It will help to secure increasingly scarce resources for the region, accelerate our trend of reducing water lost from our distribution systems and improve the experience of our customers by providing greater billing accuracy”.

United Water says their decision to select the Sensus FlexNet system was intended to propose an effective method to tackle three common causes of non-revenue water.

The innovative system is programmed to record the use of water through on-demand meter readings, leak identification and water theft detection.

President of United Water’s Regulated Business said: “This project is a win-win for the environment and customers. It will help to secure increasingly scarce resources for the region, accelerate our trend of reducing water lost from our distribution systems and improve the experience of our customers by providing greater billing accuracy”.

The Sensus FlexNet system requires fewer infrastructures than other competing systems as it occupies a reliable long-range radio network that serves as a secure two-way communications avenue.

Director of Global Water Marketing at Sensus, Dan Pinney said: “We value our partnership with United Water and support its dedication to customer satisfaction and the superior performance of its network. The FlexNet communication system easily integrates with existing systems. That means lower network maintenance and operating costs associated with deploying an extensive network infrastructure”.

Earlier this month California’s Santa Clara Valley Water District selected IDModeling’s flagship smart water and wastewater enterprise software, Sedaru, to manage its water systems.
