The latest part of Jeremy Leggett’s landmark book, The Winning of the Carbon War, has been released and shows that significant gains are being made in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Leggett, a social entrepreneur and author, is chairman of the Carbon Tracker Initiative think-tank and renewable energy firm Solarcentury and is releasing a part of the book each month in the build up to the key United Nations’ climate meeting in Paris in December.

The book is downloadable free of charge and provides a ‘live’ account of the global energy and climate developments of throughout the year.

There are six monthly episodes to go and the last will be posted on 3rd January 2016.

The book covers range of key themes relevant to climate change, energy, and poverty alleviation and identifies a series of events that have combined to create a ‘tipping point’ in the demise of the fossil fuel industries.

Leggett argues that three emerging trends – the cost of deploying renewables falling, the cost of delivering hydrocarbons rising, and the politics of climate abatement showing signs of aligning – is resulting in the tipping point that is now being reached.

Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin Group, said: “Given how vital developments in energy and climate will be for the future global economy, a front-line chronicle of events as they unfold in the make-or-break year ahead promises to be fascinating. With a past in oil and gas, a present in solar and finance, and two decades of climate campaigning along the way, we can rely on Jeremy Leggett to provide an interesting and insightful perspective.”
