Manchester United have announced a global partnership with Abengoa, with the brand becoming the Premier League giant's first sustainable technology partner.

Abengoa is active on five continents and has over 25,000 employees, with a focus on developing environmentally friendly and sustainable technological solutions.

The company is renowned for expertise in solar energy, renewable fuels and desalination technology and they will identify, advise and implement sustainable waste management and resource efficiency at United.

Manchester United is already regarded as on of the UK’s most environmentally conscious sports clubs and with the agreement they will be aiming to further develop their sustainability credentials.

Richard Arnold, United’s Group Managing Director, said:  “Manchester United is proud of all the work we have been doing over many years to meet the guidelines set in our sustainability policies; however we recognise how much more can be done to become even more environmentally-sound as a business.”

“Through our partnership with Abengoa, we hope to learn more about how we can reach these goals and will seek their advice and assistance in implementing cutting edge technology that will help us become more sustainable”.

“With a global fanbase of 659 million followers we have a huge audience to communicate with and we hope this new partnership will inspire them to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.”

Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Abengoa's Chief Executive, said: “At Abengoa we are proud to be associated with a great team like Manchester United that shares our vision that we all have a responsibility to our earth and to future generations. Its example is an excellent opportunity to show the world of football and its millions of supporters, including the next generation of sports fans, the principle of responsible and sustainable management of our energy and environment”.
