The Indian Environmental Minister Prakash Javadekar, is seeking to modify Indian governments environmental regulations regarding pollution, implementing strict measures to reduce pollution and develop a pathway to a greener country.

Javadekar announced on Monday that new procedures are in place to ensure that the government are making the necessary changes in order to control pollution.

After being criticised for not taking firmer actions to protect the environment, Javadekar is focusing his efforts in making the appropriate changes to preserve the environment and protect the levels of pollution being released into the atmosphere.

Javadekar said “As many as 64 government officers gave us suggestions about proper implementation of various policies regarding pollution control. We are making necessary changes in rules and regulations to control pollution.

He told reporters after launching the 'Swachh Bharat' campaign, “We have detected 17 highly polluted locations and initially 3,000 industries have been selected for installation of pollution control devices for proper effluent discharge”.

Currently, the Ministry is progressing to develop pollution monitoring devices over a three year period with the assistance of the high-level committee for revising green laws.

He explained that a strict control will be set in place to reprimand those that do not comply with the pollution constraint regulations. These regulations apply to industries across the country.

Javadekar said that satellite images of rivers will be used to locate and monitor water pollution from sand extraction to ensure that the contamination of rivers is mitigated.

There is also a regulation set against plastic bags measuring 40 microns and below in width to be prohibited as they are non-biodegradable.

The Environmental Minister’s main target is to focus on clean air, clean water, clean power and green surroundings, he said as he participated in a road clearing scheme alongside students. His aim is in compliance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission where he said that by cleaning the environment, one is serving the country.
