The Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey announced the UK’s government plan to outsource UK’s climate adaptation expertise in assisting developing countries.

Ed Davey discussed a proposal to assemble a collection of support mechanisms that the UK could provide to developing countries.

The scheme is currently in the early stages of examination however, Davey is believed to have set the initiation in motion before the general election.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) provided the UK with support on how they could assist the Met Office and the Environmental Agency.

DECC suggested for the UK to help improve seasonal forecasting in Africa or to offer support and advice to businesses and organisations in the public sector to adapt to climate change.

The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew could also provide advice on building resilience of plants and crops while the UK’s insurance industry play a part in helping countries prepare for worsening floods.

Davey said: "The UK is a global leader in tackling climate change and the major threat it poses to our prosperity and security. With the crunch climate talks in Paris just months away, the world needs every ounce of expertise and effort available if we are to limit temperature rises and avoid the worst impacts of climate change”.

He continued: "That is why I want to bring together the UK’s wide-ranging climate service expertise so we can assist other nations in dealing with the impacts of climate change".
