A leading Chinese investment firm will put $115 million towards a 50 MW wind energy project near Karachi, Pakistan, as part of the ongoing energy collaboration between the two countries.

HydroChina Investment Corporation is the latest Chinese company to support the development of renewable energy infrastructure in Pakistan as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The project is expected to be operational by September 2016 and will generate enough electricity to cover the energy requirements of 100,000 households.

China Three Gorges Corporation invested $130 million in another 50 MW wind energy project in Pakistan last year.

China is supporting Pakistan with financial and technical assistance to install power plants covering various clean technologies.

Chinese firms are also working on Pakistan’s largest solar power project – the 1 GW Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park.

The Quaid-e-Azam project currently has a capacity of 100 MW, which is expected to be increased to 300 MW by the end of this year, and will reach 1 GW by end of 2016.
