Apple has announced a new project with the World Wildlife Fund that will protect around 1 million acres of forests in China.

The initiative will enhance responsible management of working forests that provide fibre for pulp, paper and wood products.

Apple has set a target to achieve a net-zero impact on the world’s supply of sustainable virgin fibre.

Apple made the announcement on Saturday comes and follows the news that the company is also working with environmental group The Conservation Fund to acquire more than 36,000 acres of forests in Maine and North Carolina.

According to reports, the forests will be harvested sustainably and used for Apple packaging.

Apple also announced its ambition to expand its clean energy projects to manufacturing facilities in China.
