Climate Action will be partnering with NatureWorks, maker of the Ingeo™ biopolymer, at this year's UNFCCC's Conference of the Parties (COP-16) in Cancun, Mexico. Through the partnership, Climate Action and NatureWorks will develop a series of activities on the theme of "Innovative, Sustainable Product Development for Everyday Use." The project's goal is to share how NatureWorks' Ingeo innovation partners are contributing to COP-16's and Climate Action's goals by demonstrating how every single individual and company can do something tangible for the environment. An innovation gallery of commercially available, low carbon footprint, Ingeo products by key international brands will be on display at Climate Action Opening reception on December 3 2010.
NatureWorks' Ingeo biopolymer - made from plants not oil - will be featured through the sustainable product alternatives developed by partner companies. This project is unique within COP-16 as NatureWorks and its partners are the only ones approaching the problem from a "consumer" perspective. By developing sustainable product choices that are attractive to consumers, NatureWorks and its partners are shifting industry practices "bottom-up", rather than through a "top-down" government or industry approach. By showcasing a group of companies that are making a real difference by making sustainable changes in products of everyday use NatureWorks, Climate Action and Ingeo Partners seek to demonstrate how sustainable responsibility can take many shapes at different levels of decision making and influence. The partner' shared goal in this project is to inform and educate on real innovative and responsible product and market choices geared towards finding solutions for sustainable development and carbon neutrality. NatureWork's Ingeo biopolymer and the products derived from it give the markets an additional tool to reduce Co2, and the display of these products in the setting of the COP-16 will serve to prove how better choices for the planet are already taking place by giving consumer better products, and better choices.
