
The small islands of the Caribbean have, over the past decade, experienced extensive social, economic and environmental impacts of intensive storms and hurricanes, in part attributable to climate change. This pattern is also reflected in many parts of South America, yet the region's contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, the key driver in human climate change, is far less than parts of the developed world. Specific regions continue to look at ways to mitigate the consequences of climate change on its people and land.
