What is one tonne of CO2? Imagine 1,000 giant beach balls, each one metre in diameter, each full of pure CO2. That’s one tonne.
Or you can imagine it like this: one tonne of CO2 fills six double decker buses.
Information from the Energy Saving Trust suggests that every household in the UK creates around six tonnes of CO2 every year from the energy it uses – six times the volume of a household’s waste sent to the landfill.
According to Climate Care, it costs £7.50 to offset one tonne of CO2. Offsetting is the act of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, usually by contributing towards an environmental project such as tree planting to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions produced.
