European energy specialist company IMS Ecubes is partnering with the government of South Sumatra to provide zero-carbon energy infrastructure for the 2018 Asian Games.

The two parties announced their partnership during the European Utility Week Expo in Barcelona, Spain, last week.

The Asian Games or Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years gathering athletes from all over Asia, and the second largest sporting event in the world.

The multinational joint venture company IMS Ecubes produces demand responsive, MW-scale hydrogen generation and storage, advanced grid flexibility solutions and zero-emissions mobility solutions, thanks to hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and refuelling infrastructure.

The Games will be held in Indonesia this year, in the capital Jakarta and in Palembang, which is the capital of the province of South Sumatra.

IMS Ecubes will enable the 2018 Asian Games to feature zero-carbon technologies – solar PV, hydrogen storage and power demand-side management, zero-emissions hydrogen fuel cell mobility and fuel cell power generation supply-side management.

The Company also aims at developing whole-system energy and mobility solutions throughout South Asia and Europe thanks to its new joint venture Arcola Energy which is based in the UK.

Dr Ben Todd, CTO of IMS Ecubes, and Managing Director of Arcola Energy, said: “We are confident that this partnership with South Sumatra will lead to hydrogen-based solutions being established within the energy mix globally... It will also demonstrate – given the challenging, sub-two-year timescale for delivery – that hydrogen-based solutions can be deployed at least as quickly as other alternatives.”

This topic will be covered further at Sustainable Innovation in Sport – a two day meeting bringing together stakeholders and influencers who are engendering positive environmental impacts through sport, on the 22-23 February 2017. For more information and to register, visit the website by clicking here
