World Cities Summit (WCS) 2014 was opened in Singapore on Sunday by prime minister Lee Hesien Loong, and the annual event will bring leaders from government, businesses, academia and international organisations with a focus on sustainability.

The event runs until Thursday and has two events running alongside it: Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) and CleanEnviro Summit Singapore (CESS).

More than 3,000 people will attend all three events which are focusing on integrated urban sustainability solutions.

An estimated 40 ministers and over 130 mayors and city leaders will attend the WCS 2014.

900 exhibiting companies will be showcasing integrated sustainable solutions across 30,000 sq metres of covered exhibition space.

Singapore has been praised for its sustainable urban development in recent years and the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) released a report published this year citing Singapore as an example to cities around the world.
