The world is warming at a more rapid pace then what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) originally expected.
The jury is in and the reality of the situation is undeniable; as our environment is showing all the tell tale signs of rapid depletion acidification of the oceans, faster-than-expected melting of the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets, rising sea levels, shifting ocean and atmospheric currents, and warming polar landmasses.
Ken Caldeira of Stanford University, one of roughly 60 scientific reviewers of the report said, "This compendium reminds us that the risks we face may be much greater than what's generally represented in IPCC assessments."
With the world warming so rapidly, (about 1.4 to 4.3 degrees C- 2.5 to 7.7 degrees F from 2007 to 2009) quick, assertive and definite action is needed to prevent any more destruction.
Developing countries, suffering economies and a lack of emission cutbacks in industrialized worlds, have caused greenhouse gas emissions to grow at the most extreme scenario presented by the IPCC.
