Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng has approved the allocation of 3,000 billion VND (US$140.6 million) from the State budget in 2015 for climate change projects.

These include 16 unfinished projects under the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SP-RCC) launched last year; projects on planting forest in coastal marshes and river upstream regions; and upcoming projects on the list of the SP-RCC.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development are assigned, in collaboration with relevant agencies, to assess and manage the technical aspects of the projects as well as the prices and investment levels of forest-planting initiatives.

The Minister of Planning and Investment will be responsible for allocating finance to the unfinished projects in the framework of the SP-RCC and projects already completing all required procedures.

The People’s Committee of provinces and cities are given the authority to approve new projects in the field based on technical assessment from relevant ministries and to evaluate and decide investment levels for new projects.
