Ministers for the Environment and Energy, as well as key policy and decision makers from over 140 countries will convene in Nairobi, Kenya this week for the 12th Special Session of the Governing Council and Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The annual summit, running from February 20th-22nd, will provide a platform for ministries, UN officials, global agencies, inter-governmental representatives and NGOs to consult, exchange ideas and formulate policies to address key environmental issues on a national and global level in the lead up to both Rio+20 and December’s COP18.
Running alongside this year’s summit on February 20th, and for its third consecutive year, Climate Action, in partnership with UNEP, will be showcasing a Sustainable Innovation Expo.
The Sustainable Innovation Expo 2012 will demonstrate how innovative technologies from 20 private sector organisations, including AEG Power Solutions, IDE Technologies Ltd and Talesun, can assist governments and their populations in the development and promotion of sustainable practices. This year’s event will feature a range of technologies including solar powered water pumping solutions, eco-farming, portable desalination technology, and sustainable energy solutions.
The event will be formally opened by UNEP Spokesperson, Nick Nuttall, on Monday 20th February at 6pm.
