A combination of UK’s airline, airports, manufacturers and air navigation service providers has launched opportunities for sustainable aviation fuels.

The UK’s National Air Traffic Services (NATS) have announced ideas for inventing sustainable aviation fuel.

The Sustainable Aviation (SA) research shows the benefits this development could offer such as a 24 per cent reduction in aviation carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, the generation of £265 million in economic value plus the creation of 4,400 jobs in the UK over the next 15 years.

A report released that support from the government is vital to be successful in carrying out this initiative, which could assist global nations as well as the UK.

The SA fuel could contribute to supporting the pathway to a greener UK economy. It could also provide opportunities for jobs and economic growth as well as assist the viability of the market for producers, refiners and investors.

The road-map to Sustainable Aviation fuel with up to 12 plants in the UK is predicted to benefit 90-160 operational sustainable fuel plants globally with revenue estimated at £8-16 billion.

Alongside reducing carbon dioxide emissions, creating approximately £265 million for the UK economy and providing jobs, the deployment of this initiative presents Sustainable Aviation (SA) as an advisable establishment which builds trust in their initiatives similar to the USA’s Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuel Initiative (CAAFI).

Jonathon Counsell, chair of Sustainable Aviation, said: “The UK aviation industry is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and this Road- Map not only demonstrates an additional way for us to do so but also identifies a new industry that could supply thousands of jobs and hundreds of million of pounds to our economy”.
