Large-scale solar PV installations in the UK grew by an incredible 600 per cent during 2013, driving the UK to a record 1.45GW of new solar PV capacity added.

Ground-mounted installations accounted for over 90 per cent of new large-scale solar PV added in the UK in 2013.

The UK was ranked in sixth place globally for large-scale solar PV, and is one of just six countries that had, or approached, a GW-level large-scale solar market during 2013.

In Q1 of 2014 the UK has already installed 1.1GW of solar and further growth is forecast.

In the last year, large-scale solar development has grown in the UK, but there are still challenges for the industry: the transition from Renewable Obligation Certificates to Contracts for Difference, issues around grid capacity and barriers inhibiting the commercial rooftop sector all need to be addressed.

However the future looks promising as falling costs mean solar is becoming cheaper and investors are warming up to solar projects more and more.

In four days time the Large Scale Solar UK conference will bring together a network of leading industry experts driving the growth of large-scale solar in the UK.

This sell-out event attracted over 200 delegates in 2013 and is the only large-scale solar focused event of its kind to take place in the UK this year. For delegate tickets and further information visit http://largescale.solarenergyevents.com
