The US city of Portland in the state of Oregon has been named the top city in the country for electric vehicle infrastructure and development.

A new study from experts at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs has ranked US cities based on their accommodation of EVs including the available incentives, the number of public charging stations.

The north-western city topped the list due to the availability of EV charging stations, a streamlined home charging-station approval process, and generous state-wide tax-credits for charging station installation.

Oregon is also the only state in the US that has appointed an ‘Electric Car Czar’ and is a participant in the West Coast Electric Highway initiative, aimed at creating a network of EV charging stations along the west coast.

Portland topped the list of 36 cities and was followed by Washington, D.C., Baltimore, New York City, and Denver.

The cities of Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Austin, and San Francisco completed the top 10.
