The Spanish unit of Italy’s Enel SpA, Endesa is collaborating with Nissan Motor Co in developing technology that will allow electric car owners to supply their homes with power as well as to sell unused energy to the grid.

The technology formulated by Nissan Motors and Endesa enables the energy stored in electric cars to be used to power homes or to be sold to the grid.

CEO Nissan Iberia, Marco Toro said: “Through this agreement we will continue to join forces to expand the 100% electric vehicle and make it become a majority in Spanish roads”.

He continues: “We also state that zero-emission technologies not only provide significant environmental benefits, but also involve a source of significant savings”.

Endesa says they will work with Nissan Motor Co. to bring the systems to the market.

The Chief Executive Officer of Endesa, Jose Bogas said: “Thanks to this technology, electric vehicles will become a fully integrated part of the electric system, adding new storage capacity and utilizing that capacity in the new and innovative ways, for purposes other than mobility”.

Electricity is one of the few types of energy that cannot be stored on a large scale. Therefore the energy collected has to be consumed.

Much of the electricity generated at night in the wind farms when they are more active cannot be used.

The V2G technology of electric mobility utilises the energy much more efficiently through e-car owners using the energy to charge their e-vehicles at night.

The initiative represents a major step toward optimising production and distribution and balancing supply and demand between consumers and manufacturers.
