Rt Hon Peter Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, will head an impressive line up of leading policy-makers, regulators and industry experts that will be exploring UK and EU environmental policy and the associated business risks and opportunities at the forthcoming Environmental Industries Commission's (EIC) [1] National Conference [2].

Speakers including Rt Hon Peter Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Peter Ainsworth MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Steve Webb MP, Liberal Democrat Spokesman for the Environment, Lord Chris Smith, Chairman, Environment Agency and Timo Makela, Director of Sustainable Development, European Commission will help business leaders to:

  • Explore the strategic direction of environmental policy in the UK and EU
  • Assess the detailed implications of individual areas of environmental policy
  • Help identify the new markets created by legislation

The credit crunch and financial storms will not reduce the impact of existing environmental policies – these were legislated for over the past decade and are set in stone.

The Conference is, therefore, an essential event for every business to help understand the rapidly developing UK and EU legislative framework and the risks and the business opportunities that environmental policy creates.

Other speakers include: Neil Thornton, Director of Sustainable Consumption and Production at Defra, Professsor Michael Grubb, Climate Change Committee, Bob Ledson, Deputy Director for Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the Department for Communities and Local Government, Cheryl Case, Head of Water Strategy at Defra, Daniel Instone, Head of Waste Policy at Defra, Martin Williams, Head of Air Quality at Defra and Stephen Hale, Director of Green Alliance.

The Conference is sponsored by: Enviros, Faber Maunsell and MwH.
