Local Renewables Freiburg 2013 conference: Shaping your solar city

The Local Renewables Freiburg 2013 Conference, taking place in Freiburg, Germany from 24 - 25 October 2013, will focus on how to shape a solar city and optimise local renewable energy potentials.

Organised by ICLEI Europe and the City of Freiburg, the 6th Local Renewables conference will provide practical guidance on how to shape a solar city and optimise local renewable energy potentials.

The conference will explore how local governments can embrace clean energy and tackle financial, planning and regulatory challenges to shape their solar city by optimising collaboration with local stakeholders (business, civil society and academia), evaluating technological innovations, and identifying various sources of financing.

In the current context of financial austerity, growing energy insecurity and resource scarcity local governments are called to act as drivers, moving towards smart cities and low-carbon economies to enable safe, secure and affordable energy in the long term.

The conference will examine the collaboration with local stakeholders, the value of technological innovations and how to identify sources of financing local action.

This represents a valuable opportunity for policy-makers, representatives from European institutions, energy service providers, experts and other interested professionals to share their views and knowledge on how to switch to renewable energy and improve energy efficiency while creating opportunities for the local economy.
