Indian state of Odisha to add 3-GW of clean energy
Eastern Indian state to cover 3% of ambitious national target to reach 175-GW of renewables capacity by 2022
The Indian state of Odisha will add 3-GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022, as part of the central governments ambitious target of to add 140-GW of renewable energy capacity by the same year.
Odisha, the eastern Indian state on the Bay of Bengal, is the latest among a number of states in the country to start updating their clean energy policies.
The states 3-GW target will cover around 3 per cent of the national target to reach 175-GW of installed capacity by 2022.
Odisha’s target includes 2.3-GW of new solar energy, 350-MW of wind power, 150-MW of hydro power, 180-MW of biomass, and 20-MW of municipal solid waste-based power capacity.
The state currently has an installed solar power capacity of 31.5-MW, hydro power capcity 64.3-MW, and 20-MW of biomass capacity.
The state government announced that it will introduce a new Odisha Renewable Energy Development Fund to help implement the plan and achieve the clean energy target with $77 million set aside for the fund over the next 5 years.
