Greener buildings increase productivity levels

A new study shows greening existing buildings can cut long term operational costs and reduce sick leave amongst staff. Conducted by the University of San Diego the study compared employees working in non-green structures with those working in buildings adhering to green codes and practices.

A new study shows greening existing buildings can cut long term operational costs and reduce sick leave amongst staff.

Conducted by the University of San Diego the study compared employees working in non-green structures with those working in buildings adhering to green codes and practices.

The study, Green Building and Productivity, showed buildings with better insulation, ventilation and natural lighting effects provided content employees resulting in a five per cent increase in productivity and a reduction of three sick leave days a year per employee within the sample group.

Based on the sample group median salary, monetarily the percentages translate to $1,228.54 per employee based on reduced sick leave and $5,204 due to productivity increases.
