The Green Retail App has been launched in Scotland and the tool will help shops and retailers improve energy efficiency and waste management, and reduce their water consumption.

Enscape Consulting Ltd has developed the app which is free to download from Google Play or Apple store.

Zero Waste Scotland launched the idea though its Resource Efficient Scotland programme by and the app is aimed at boosting the circular economy across the country.

The app gives small retailers access to videos, links and practical tools advising on how to be more sustainable.

It will be presented at the Retail Energy Efficiency Task Force in London, where large retailers will be advising smaller outlets on how to conserve energy and a variety of other resources.

Stephen Boyle, programme area manager for the business sector at Resource Efficient Scotland, said: “The retail sector has the potential to make huge efficiency savings and we are keen to help them realise savings where they can and to make their businesses more efficient. The Green Retail app is a handy, easy-to-use and comprehensive tool for busy retailers to access the latest advice and support from the Resource Efficient Scotland programme and Zero Waste Scotland, making smarter use of resources and saving money in the process.”

In July, 70 signatories to an initiative jointly run by the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and the Food and Drink Federation (FDF), achieved a 15.6 per cent reduction in water consumption – saving the industry £2 million.
