(Mineweb) The Central Africa Mining and Exploration Company (CAMEC) is getting into the biofuel manufacturing business, much to the consternation of Mozambique farmers which will compete with the company for water.
Central Africa Mining and Exploration Company (CAMEC) has signed an agreement with Mozambique to embark on a biofuel project that will produce 120 million litres of ethanol a year.
CAMEC, which is Mozambique's largest single holder of coal licenses, is expected to spend US$510 million for the project, which will compliment its mining endeavors.
The agreement was signed by Mozambique's Agriculture Minister Erasmo Muhate and CAMEC Country Manager for Mozambique, Izak Holtzhausen.
