The European Investment Bank (EIB) will assist the development of renewable energy projects in Pakistan after talks between the two parties proved productive.

Magdalena Alverez, EIB Vice President, held talks with Pakistan's Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday to assess possible modes of financing for projects.

Pakistan is especially seeking to boost wind power projects to meet rising energy and Alverez assured the finance minister that the Bank would analyse overall renewable and hydro energy generation for possible future investment.

The finance minister explained that the global commercial market and multilateral donors have expressed interest in offering structured investments in Pakistan.

The country has 19,000MW power generation capacity from the Indus River which is seen as a attractive investment for overseas stakeholders and investors, Dar said.

Dar detailed how the the proposed Dasu hydropower project could support the country’s water and power-related needs if overseas investment is secured.
