China’s International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA), signed an agreement with South Korea’s Daegu Science and Technology Park (DTP) last week in a move that will boost energy efficiency and environmental protection in the region.

IEEPA, a Beijing based NGO, and DTP are looking to establish a support system for energy conservation and environmental protection, and the cooperation will promote the establishment of ecological parks and a Sino-Korean business collaboration base.

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited South Korea in July and called for increased collaboration to boost trade and economic ties between the two countries

President Xi highlighted areas including renewable energy generation, environmental conservation and the reduction of green house gas (GHG) emissions as focal points for any ongoing cooperation.

Kim Yeongsam, Minister Counsellor of the South Korean Embassy in China, pointed out that the extensive economic relationship between China and South Korea is boosting business cooperation in different fields.

Kim said: “This strategic agreement is significant for Sino-Korean people-to-people communication and cooperation.”

Li Junyang, general secretary of IEEPA, noted that the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries, are China’s emerging sectors, and would benefit significantly from the enhanced knowledge and expertise from South Korea.
