Australian company to invest in US renewable energy industries

AMP Capital Investors Ltd, the Sydney-based company, is planning further investments in U.S. energy industries after putting money into the country’s renewable energy industry for the first time. President Obama to act on climate change even without support of US Congress

Barack Obama has told divided House of Congress lawmakers that he will act on climate change even if they do not and the United States President pledged to set ambitious long-term goals such as ending the car's dependence on oil. Obama promised that he would work to promote solar, wind and clean natural gas energy and urged citizens and businesses to cut the energy wasted by homes and industry by 50 per cent over the next 20 years.

Chinese company joins WWF's Climate Savers Programme

WWF has announced that Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (Yingli), one of the world’s largest manufacturers of solar panels, has become the first Chinese company, to join WWF’s Climate Savers programme. Yingli is also the first Chinese company to set a renewable electricity consumption target and by the end of 2015, at least 4% of the electricity that Yingli consumes will come from renewable sources. Renewable energy sources, including solar, biomass, wind and geothermal, currently comprises 1% of China’s energy consumption portfolio.

Scottish government to invest £1.14 billion to tackle climate change

The Scottish government has announced it will be investing over £1 billion as part of a three-year plan to combat climate change, with the country aiming to decarbonise its power sector by 2030 and upgrade its offshore wind sector. First Minister Alex Salmond announced Scotland's ambition to cut carbon emissions from electricity generation by more than 80 per cent by 2030.

UK to invest £24 billion to upgrade power grids and promote low carbon energy

The UK will be making a £24 billion upgrade to its power grid with the ambition of connecting more of its low carbon energy sources to its network. There is increasing stress on the grid system in the UK as renewable energy technologies grow in popularity. Technologies such as onshore and offshore wind farms are becoming more prevalent in the UK energy porfolio and the new investment will be looking to take this into account.
