BrightSource to support solar thermal projects in China
BrightSource, the premier solar thermal field technology provider, is entering the concentrating solar power market in China with China Power Investment Corporation and the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute.
BrightSource Energy is entering the concentrating solar power market in China and has signined a memorandum of agreements with China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (C.R.E.E.I.).
They will also be amending an existing M.O.U. that they have with Huanghe Hydropower Development to guide its cooperation with CPR and Huanghe.
The M.O.U.’s were signed at the U.S.-China Renewable Energy Forum in Shanghai under the U.S.-China Framework for the Ten-Year Cooperation on Energy and Environment.
“The global market for C.S.P. is expanding at a rapid pace and that is especially true in China,” said David Ramm, BrightSource executive chairman. “BrightSource looks forward to working without partners in China to execute these M.O.U.’s. In doing so, we will work to help establish industry best practices and grow a vibrant market for C.S.P.”
Under the M.O.U. with C.P.I., BrightSource will be the technology supplier for the first commercial scale C.S.P. project as part of the U.S.-China Framework. The project will be configured to meet local conditions and requirements of China’s grid.
Huanghe will be the leader for development, construction and operation of the project.
BrightSource and CPI will also track C.S.P. technology developments for future cost reductions, work together to pursue relevant policy developments in China, and explore collaboration in international markets.
C.R.E.E.I., which was selected by China’s National Energy Administration to organize and compile a national C.S.P. handbook, will cooperate with Brightsource to identify issues regarding efficient utilization of C.S.P. in the country.
BrightSource will leverage its experience to jointly promote with C.R.E.E.I. the technological advancement and project development of the Chinese C.S.P. industry. This will include guidance on site selection criteria, lessons learned, applications for future projects, strategies for C.S.P. cost reduction, personnel training and best practices.
BrightSource is considered the world’s premier solar thermal field technology provider. They are currently constructing one of the world’s largest solar thermal projects, the 377 MW Ivanpah project in California.
