The Business Renewables Center (BRC) and RE100 have announced a partnership with the aim of increasing the uptake of renewable energy by some of the world’s largest companies.

The partnership is designed to increase the demand for renewable energy from buyers, find renewable opportunities with developers, and provide a link between the two through tools and knowledge.

The RE100 initiative is led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP and more than 50 major businesses, including Google and Walmart, have set 100 per cent renewable electricity targets.

BRC supports firms in signing large wind and solar energy deals, adding more renewable energy to the grid.

BRC was founded by the Rocky Mountain Institute to help assist large companies in achieving their sustainability targets.

RMI managing director Hervé Touati, said: “The overall goal of both RE100 and the BRC is increasing the penetration of renewable energy…very small number of corporations led the way to show it is possible to have a determining role to increase the number of megawatts of wind and solar.”

On average, firms that have joined RE100 companies are now halfway to being entirely powered by renewable electricity.

RE100 and BRC are running a series of joint webinars for members, to enable knowledge sharing between major corporates.

Previous webinar topics have included power purchase agreements and China’s renewable energy market.
