A MINISTERIAL meeting of non-aligned countries has resolved to promote the use of computing and communications technologies to improve access to information and accelerate development.
Ministers of information of the non-aligned countries (COMINAC VII) noted in their final declaration that these countries should take advantage of the advancement of information and communication technology (ICT).
The ministers said the decreasing cost of communications and easy access to the internet afforded developing countries “unprecedented opportunity” to forge closer links. The three-day conference is among latest efforts by NAM to seek ways of reducing the negative coverage of the developing countries by western media.
The movement has established a news pool based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and a television network based in Venezuela.
