Climate Action - Assisting business towards carbon neutrality

Arnie says “hasta la vista” to climate change as UK’s biggest climate campaign goes global

Today, California Governor and former Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger led a coalition of major US brands and Cities to launch the largest-ever US consumer engagement campaign on climate change. The new campaign “Together” (http://www.together.com) will make it easier for every American to fight climate change. The campaign is already a huge success in the UK where it was launched by Tony Blair last year and has so far helped millions British consumers save half a million tonnes of CO2 and over £100 million pounds on rising household bills.
 
“Protecting our environment is a job that belongs to each one of us. Together will help make this possible,” said California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. “By making it easier and more affordable for Americans to fight climate change, we are taking a giant step towards a brighter and cleaner future…[and]…saying ‘Hasta la Vista’ to climate change.” Steve Howard, co-founder of the UK Together campaign, said: “We know small changes can add up to make a big difference on climate change. It helps save money too as we all feel the pinch from rising fuel bills.”
 
Major support for the US and UK campaigns: An unprecedented coalition of leading businesses, US cities and respected non-profit organisations today also united behind Schwarzenegger, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in support of the new Together campaign as it launched in New York’s Times Square. Big brands partnering the campaign include JP Morgan Chase, Dell, MySpace, Target, Nestlé Waters, Timberland, Fox, and Time Warner as well as seven major US city governments: New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.  Dozens more companies are expected to sign up in coming months.
 
The UK campaign has so far inspired 20 million consumer actions (such as and is backed by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former PM Tony Blair, London Mayor Boris Johnson and a growing number of national and international celebrities.  UK brands supporting the UK campaign include B&Q, Barclaycard, British Gas, BSkyB, Coca Cola, Marks & Spencer, More Th>n, National Express, O2, Tesco and Warner Bros who aim to make it easier and cheaper for people to tackle climate change in their everyday lives.
 
Together is campaign of international NGO, The Climate Group, which works with governments and businesses around the world to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate a low carbon economy. The Climate Group expects to engage citizens of other major economies and to roll out the global campaign to China, India, Hong Kong and Australia in the coming months.
