The United Nations and the Indonesian National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) recently held a major conference on Indonesia's progress toward achieving its UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a set of eight goals to be achieved by 2015 that respond to the world's main development challenges. At the conference Tjiwi Kimia, an APP mill in East Java, received two of the ten awards given to private companies and local government agencies for having made particularly noteworthy contributions toward achieving Indonesia's MDGs.
Tjiwi Kimia received the award for Environmental Sustainability in recognition of its use of best practices in contributing to the fulfillment of the national MDGs. Made from used paper, the company's Sustainable Green Products include various high quality paper products and evidence the mill's efforts to develop its business and environmental sustainability.
In honor of the company's significant contribution to improving environmental sustainability in Indonesia, Tjiwi Kimia also received a Special Award. This award is given to national or local governments, United Nations agencies, or corporations that demonstrate the most standout contribution in tackling climate change. Through its Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle policy, Tjiwi Kimia continues to cut emissions and reduce waste, contributing to fight against climate change.
