$14bn clean energy investment in India since 2013

India has attracted US$14bn over the last three financial years in renewable energy investments

India has attracted Rs 90,841 crore (US$14 billion) over the last three financial years in renewable energy investments.

The Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, announced the figures this week to the Indian Parliament.

Mr Goyal also said that the government provided incentives worth Rs 6,541 crore ($1 billion) over the same period.

The wind energy sector remained the most attractive for with Rs 46,831 crore (US$7 billion) invested since 2013.

The solar power sector was the second most popular, with investments reaching Rs 30,440 crore (US$4.5 billion).

Rs 7,382 crore (US$1.1 billion) was committed to bioenergy projects received with small hydro power projects receiving Rs 6,187 crore (US$0.92 billion).

Investment in the country’s solar power sector is expected to increase significantly over the next few years and overtake wind energy as the most popular sector for investors.

The Indian government is planning to add over 33 GW of wind energy capacity and more than 93 GW in solar power capacity over the next six years.
