According to renewable energy industry analyst MAKE Consulting, Europe will see an increase of more than 140GW of wind power over the next ten years.

Northern Europe is expected to be responsible for 60 per cent of new installations between 2016 and 2025, thanks to lower prices and EU state aid.

Thanks to policy targets and 3GW of new offshore wind capacity, Northern Europe will reach an annual demand of 8GW in 2020.

Last year, 14.4GW of new wind capacity was added in Europe – a 9 per cent growth on 2014, with growth records in Germany, Finland, Poland, The Netherlands and Turkey.

14.2GW of additional capacity are expected this year, less than last year, due to a slowdown in offshore.

According to MAKE, 36GW are expected for Germany in the next ten years, 15.7GW for the UK and 13.5GW for Turkey.

Southern Europe should be responsible for 28 per cent of new wind power capacity on the continent between 2016 and 2025, Eastern Europe for 12 per cent.

Wind growth in Europe has been encouraged thanks to the 2020 renewable energy targets as well as regulatory adjustments across the EU, after the national implementation of the EU Commission’s Guidelines on State aid for environmental protection and energy 2014-2020.
