Transportation Industry

Transportation industry at a glance

traffic jamTransportation is responsible for approximately 25 per cent of all CO2 emissions. Of this nearly 80 per cent is from road transport. Worldwide, these emissions are growing faster than those from any other sector and this is likely to continue in the foreseeable future. With ever increasing regulatory pressures to invest in cleaner fuels, the opportunity is there for the transport industry to seize. In the future, it is likely that alternative fuels: hybrid vehicles, biofuels, and hydrogen will only continue to increase their market share. And while both air and sea travel currently emit far less emissions that road transport, both sectors are growing fast and so too are their emissions. Other aspects for the industry will be a greater emphasis on efficient mass transit systems and ICT technology to mitigate the continuing strong demand for personal travel, air travel, and goods transport.
