Predictions suggest that world energy demand may increase by up to 50 per cent by 2030 with the majority of that energy still obtained from fossil fuels. With global population set to reach nine billion by 2050 and more and more people demanding greater energy, those working in the energy sector will be crucial players in steering the world onto a more sustainable energy path and climate change alleviation. Far greater energy efficiency measures in power plants and for end users, switching to alternative sources of energy, developing and promoting cleaner technologies for fossil fuel use will all be necessary to avoid catastrophic global climate change.
