Secretariat for Economic Integration of Central America (SIECA)

The Secretariat for Economic Integration of Central America (SIECA), according to Article 48 of the General Treaty of Economic Integration, is the regional body that supports Central American countries in the process of economic integration.

As General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for Economic Integration (COMIECO) and the Council of Ministers of Transport (COMITRAN) (Article 43 of the General Treaty), SIECA oversees the correct application of the legal framework for economic integration and the implementation of decisions by the organs Economic Integration Subsystem. It also monitors issues of infrastructure and transport. The Secretariat is the economic integration subsystem liaison with SICA and the regional private sector, organized in the Advisory Council for Economic Integration (CCIE).

SIECA proposes and implements initiatives for the improvement of the Central American free trade area; supports negotiations on the customs union and the implementation of regional commitments of the trade pillar of the Association Agreement with Central America - European Union. It provides information to the authorities responsible for economic integration, for decision-making.

To support the process of economic integration, SIECA manages, executes and participates in cooperative projects with international cooperation partners.
