Sappi is a leading global manufacturer of pulp and paper, with mills on four continents, in nine countries and customers in over 100 countries. We are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen, guided by the principles of sustainable development. We recognise that responsible stewardship of resources and continuous improvement of environmental performance are essential to sustained economic development.We ensure that our manufacturing operations conform to international standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSA 18001 and we are working towards all the wood and pulp we use being certified. In Southern Africa, where we have plantation forestry operations these are fully Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
Our products are not only measured on quality and service, but also on our commitment to sustainability. We do not bleach with chlorine, we include recycled fibre in our products, and we have launched product ranges that meet the needs of specific customers. We have been recognised as a Friend of the Earth by WWF and are currently engaged in the SappiWWF TreeRoutes Partnership which strives to protect sensitive indigenous forests and wetlands in South Africa and, among other projects, we continue to be a longstanding corporate conservation partner of the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town and BirdLife SA.
