APRIL's proposed project in the Kampar Peninsula (Riau, Sumatra, Indonesia) offers a model for the protection of forest carbon stock that can potentially generate financing opportunities. If implemented, the project will achieve avoided deforestation in 270,000 hectares of conservation areas that store about 1,100 Mt of CO2 or about 50 per cent of Indonesia’s present total emissions.
